Sigma Chi Derby Days

Derby Days

Every Spring Sigma Chi holds their annual Derby Days. This is a week long event that benefits the Blair E. Batson Childrens hospital and Childrens Miracle Network. Every day is full of different money raising events. Monday the boys auction themselves off to dance in a dancing competition with the sororities who pay to have them. Tuesday features a Kareoke night where all students can participate and Wednesday interviews for the Derby Darling is held. Thursday students ride to the childrens hospital and deliver donations of such things as bandaids and can even volunteer and talk to the children. Also Calinte has a band playing and all proceeds go to Childrens Miracle Network. Friday is the dance competition, a benefit concert and all door money goes to the Childrens Miracle Network as well. This is a great week long event and raises money for a great cause!

Songfest 2010

Chi Omega holds Songfest every Christmas. This year was the 59th annual Songfest held. This helps to raise money for the Make-a-Wish foundation. Every sorority and fraternity competes by singing Christmas songs and the whole community comes out to support and give donations. Many of the Make-a-Wish children come and watch the performances and even help to judge the competition. This year over $27,000 was raised. Phi Mu sorority came in as the overall winner. This is a wonderful event that raises money for a great cause.

Lighting the Way 2010

Lighting the Way 2010

This year on December 1, 2010 Southern Miss held thier annual Christmas tree lighting. The night was full of fun and entertainment. Seymour came out and mingled with the people while free hot chocolate was available. There were many singing groups as well. The singing groups sang many beautiful christmas songs. It was the kick off for Southern Miss' christmas season and many from the community came out. It was a wonderful family affair.

Delta Delta Delta

I am a member of Delta Delta Delta at USM. Tri-Delta is a sorority that strives to make each member a better more productive woman during her years at college and even further throughout life. I have learned much in my time I have spent as a Tri-Delta. We participate in many philanthropies such as Heart Walks, raising money for Make-A-Wish foundation in Songfest, helping raise money for Children's Miracle Network during Derby Days and we have raised over 16,000 in one semester alone for St. Jude's Research Center. Some of the symbols of Delta Delta Delta are the pansy, the pearl and the pine.
